The picture I used as inspiration for this was taken on an early morning walk in Barcelona. Essentially, I liked how the three primary colors were present and the perspective of the alley juxtaposed with the flat composition to right of it.

La photo que j'ai utilisé comme source d'inspiration a été prise lors d'une marche le matin à Mallorca. J'aimais le mouvement et la texture des nuages ainsi que la perspective dynamique de la perspective à deux points utilisé pour capté l'édifice couverte de feuillages. Contrairement à la photo j'ai joué avec certaines proportions pour la composition afin de rendre la perspective encore plus dynamique. Naturellement, l'image se divise en trois niveau, sol, feuille et ciel. Chacune avec des textures intéressantes.
The photo that I used as inspiration for this was taken on an early morning walk in Mallorca. I liked the movement and the texture of the clouds as well as the dynamic two point perspective that caught the building covered in leaves. Contrary to the photo, I played with certain proportions for the composition to make the perspective even more dynamic. Naturally, the image divides itself into three levels, grounds, leaves and sky. Each with very interesting textures.

Having often been in Europe, I have always wanted to draw Montréal's old port. However, I had a desire todo a drawing that showcased our Quebec winters. Following an exploratory photo session at night, I was inspired by an image with buildings glistening in the golden rays of the streetlights. I had fun playing with the composition by making the street more narrow and slight curved in order to amplify the verticality of the buildings. The marker strokes on the ground lead to the subject. I added the man walking his dog to create a triangular composition between the three subjects.

Soirée dans le vieux port de Montréal / Night in Montreal's Old Port
Ayant souvent été en Europe, j'ai toujours voulu dessiner le vieux port de Montréal. Par contre, j'avais un désir de faire un dessin qui mettait en valeur l'hiver afin de rajouter notre saveur québecoise. Suite à une soirée exploratoire de photo à la recherche d'inspiration, je me suis inspiré d'une image avec des édifices qui reluisaient dans l'éclat dorés des lampadaires. Je me suis amusé à jouer avec la composition en rendant la rue plus étroite et légèrement courbé pour amplifier la verticalité des édifices. Les coups de marqueurs pour le sol mène vers le centre. J'ai rajouté le monsieur qui promenait son chien pour créer une composition triangulaire entre les trois sujets.

I chose to do this illustration following a photography session in Montreal's plateau following a winter storm. I was inspired by the different layers of depth that could be found in the photograph that served as source material. In the foreground, there is a car, a person waiting to cross with a building in the midgound to then have a wall lead the eye of audience towards the Mont-Royal in the background. I try to create a sort of zig zag for the eye, the subjects goes from the lower right corner towards the mid left to then go back towards the upper right corner. I wanted to bring attention to the contrast between the city and nature, particularly with the separation of the signalisation poles and the trees of Jeanne-Mance Parc that lead us to the Mont-Royal. I had fun exploring the textures of the briques and the windows, as well as the snow and trees made out of fine lines on the mountain. As usual, I like to include one character in the image and I played with the composition by putting the car and the person in opposite corners and using colors to create contrast. I had fun using a less traditional color palette in visual art but the basis of lighting design 101, the RGB ( Red, Green, Blue).

Winter on Duluth and Saint-Urbain
J'ai choisi de faire cette illustration suite à une séance de photo dans le plateau lors de la suite d'une tempêtre d'hiver. J'étais inspiré par les différentes profondeurs qui se retrouveaint dans la photo qui a servi comme matériel d'inspiration. En avant plan, nous voyons, une voiture, une personne qui attend à traverser, avec l'édifice en fond pour qu'ensuite le mur de pierre attire l'oeil du public vers le mont-royal en fond de plan. J'essaie de créer une sorte zigzag pour l'oeil, les sujet passe d'en bas à droite, vers la gauche au centre pour retourner vers la droite en haut. J'ai voulu faire ressortir le contraste entre la ville et la nature, particulièrement en séparant les poteaux de signalisation et le arbres de la parc Jeanne-Mance qui nous mèneront vers le Mont-Royal. Je me suis amusé à explorer les textures des briques et des fenêtres, ainsi que la neige et les arbres en fines lignes au fond. Comme d'habitude, j'aime inclure un personnage dans l'image et je joue avec la composition entre la voiture et la personne et j'utilise la couleur pour créer un contraste. Je me suis amusé avec une palette un peu moins traditionnelle en art visuel mais la base 101 en éclairage, le RGB (Red, Green, Blue).

I was walking around with my camera whilst on tour in Stuttgart. After several photos, I started the this drawing about a week and a half before turning thirty. There is something personal in choosing this subject, a stairwell to the unknown. There is almost something transcendent to the image and it felt appropriate at that moment in my life.
In this piece, we see the interraction between nature and urbanism. I hope to evoke the tranquility of a summer's day.
Je me promenais avec ma caméra en tournée à Stuttgart. Suite à plusieurs photo, j'ai commencé ce dessin une semaine et demi avant d'avoir trente ans. Il y a quelque chose de personnelle d'avoir choisi ce sujet, des marches qui mènent vers un inconnu. Il y a quelque chose de quasiment transcendant et ça me sentait approprié à ce moment de ma vie.
Dans cette oeuvre, on voit l'interraction entre la nature et l'urbain. J'espère évoquer la tranquilité d'une journée d'été.

On an automne day, I noticed the blue sky that was contrasting with the colors of the leaves and the orange garage. The original inspiration of the piece did not comme from a photograph but rather my daily life. The hyper saturated blue sky calms the orange in the rest of the piece. In the composition, we have the tree and the pole, two vertical elements, converge towards the lamp in the upper third corner. The cables and the variety of lines in the architecture add a géometrique dimension to the piece.
Une journée d'automne, j'ai remarqué le ciel très bleu qui contrastait avec les feuilles et les garage orange. L'inspiration d'origine de l'oeuvre ne provient pas d'une photographe mais plutôt de mon quotidien. Je me suis amusé avec la couleur saturé. Le ciel hyper saturé vient calmé l'orange dans le restant de l'oeuvre. Dans la composition, nous avons l'arbre et le poteau, deux éléments verticales, qui converge vers la lampe dans le tiers de l'image. Les fils et les variété de lignes architectural rajoute une dimension géométrique à l'oeuvre.

During my trip outside of Barcelona, I took many photos, particularly of the alleys of the Gothic quarter. I have an entire collection that will eventually become illustrations and I just happened to start with this one. I see a resssemblance with this neighborhood and that of our Montreal alleys. I was attracted the neon pink sign (and french) of the store constrasting with the yellow bricks and the lady sitting outside these narrow and tall alleys.
Lors de mon voyage à Barcelone, j'ai pris plusieurs photos, particulièrement dans les ruelles du quartier gauthique. J'ai toute une collection de photo qui deviendront éventuellement des illustrations et j'ai commencé avec celle-ci. Je vois une ressemblance entre ce quartier et celui de nos ruelles de Montréal. J'ai été attiré par la pancarte rose (et française) du magasin qui constraste avec le jaune des briques et la dame assise à l'extérieur entourer de ces ruelles étroites mais grand.

The neighborhood of Raw-Gelund in Berlin is known for its restaurants, clubs, graffiti, art spaces and alternatif style. It used to be a train station in a industrial neighborhood, now it is cultural hub in Berlin's night life.
It is certain that is an urban space where the anarchy of the after war left place for nature to be reborn. During a walk in that neighborhood, I liked the way the sun hit the truck as well as the colorful and naive side of the trucks that lives in this environment filled with nature reborn.
Le quartier Raw Gelund à Berlin est connu pour ces restaurants, clubs, graffiti, espace artistique et style alternatif. Anciennement, ce lieu était un station de train dans un quartier industriel.
C'est certain que c'est un lieux urbain où l'anarchie de l'après a laissé place à ce que la nature reprends le dessus. During a walk in that neighborhood, j'aimais la manière que le soleil frappé le camion mais aussi le côté très coloré et naif du camion qui habite se lieu rempli avec la nature phénix.

Mon first trip outside country was in Japan. As a child, I would read manga and draw my favourite characters all the time. As an adolescent, I always dreamed of walking around the alleyways of Japan with a camera in hand. During this trip, without truly knowing, I took some of the first photos that would eventually become one of the main references used in my practice and following the trip, I started making my original pieces. I was inspired by the tranquility of the urban landscape with the mountains and the clouds in the background.

Adolescent, j'ai toujours voulu me promener avec une caméra dans les ruelles japonaise. Pendant ce voyage sans le savoir, j'ai pris les premiers photos qui deviendront une de mes sources de références principale dans ma pratique et suite à ce voyage, je commence à faire des oeuvres original. J'étais inspiré par le paysage urbain avec les montagnes nuages en relief. J'ai pris une photo de notre auberge.

I was inspired by the colorful houses on the icy waters of Yellowknife. The Tucho (Big Water) is one of the names of the lac used by the Dehcho Dehne, one of the Indigineous peoples who have lived on the Territory for many years. This lac has been an important place for the people living on the Territory. It contains the finish that fed and continue to feed the people living on the land. Today, it serves as an Ice road to connect Yellowknife to Detta Village. There is even a small community of individuals living on the house boats floating on the water. Since I like to paint urban spaces that are in interaction with nature, I naturally had the desire to paint this landscape that puts emphasis on the small community of houseboats around Joliffe island.

Maison sur Tucho / Houses on Tucho
J'ai été inspiré par les maisons colorés sur l'eau glacée à Yellowknife. Le Tucho ( Grosse eau) est le nom du lac appelé par les Dehcho Dehne, peuple autochtone qui ont longtemps habité sur ce territoire. Ce lac a été un lieu important pour les peuples habitant sur le territoire. Il contient les poissons qui ont servi de nourriture et qui nourri encore les gens qui y habitent. Aujourd'hui, Il sert d'autoroute l'hiver pour relié Yellowknife au village Detta. Il y a même une petite commuanauté de gens qui habitent dans des maisons-bateaux qui flottent sur l'eau. Comme j'aime mettre en valeur les espaces urbain en interaction avec la nature, j'ai naturellement eu envie de faire ce paysage qui met en valeur la communauté de bateau qui habite autour de l'île Joliffe.

After having explored different textures to reproduce water in past illustrations , I had the courage and desire to tackle an illustration based on this picture. The angled house that figures to the left of the image directs the viewer to the opposite side of the shoreline creating a dynamic composition. The yellow house is vibrant and lives well in relation to the greenery and the ocean that surrounds it.
Après avoir explorer les différentes textures pour reproduire de l'eau dans mon dessin précédent, j'avais le courage et le désir de m'attaquer à cette illustration. La maison angulé qui se retrouve dans la partie gauche de l'image dirige notre regard vers le côté opposé du littoral pour créer une composition dynamique. La masion jaune est vibrante et vit bien en relation avec la verdure et l'océan qui l'entoure.

I was on the other side, standing on Hector's Dock during a bike ride when I was inspired by the carefree adolescents enjoying the summer weather on a Friday night whilst looking forward. The viewer's perspective is immediately attracted towards the children but we follow their gaze towards the hidden building in the background. I wanted to evoke the nostalgia that I felt in that moment. I explored different techniques to reproduce the water and sky.
J'étais de l'autre bord sur le quai Hector en balade de vélo quand j'étais inspiré par les adolescents insouciant qui profitait de la température un vendredi soir d'été qui regardait devant eux. Notre regard est immédiatement attiré par les enfants en avant-plan mais on suit leur regard vers l'édifices caché au fond à gauche. J'ai voulu capturé la nostalgie que j'avais ressenti lorsque je les observais. J'ai exploré différente technique afin de reproduire le ciel et l'eau.

The inspiration for this piece comes from a photo that was taken in the city of Québec while I was on tour. When I saw the lady in red walking up the hill, I immediately took out my camera because I wanted to get picture of her blending in with the background. I am very proud of how the textures came out on the building and the street.
L'inspiration pour cette oeuvre provient d'une photo prise à Québec pendant que j'étais en tournée. Quand j'ai vu la dame avec le manteau rouge monter la pente j'ai immédiatement sortie ma caméra car je voulais la voir se mélanger dans le décor du magasin. Je suis très reconnaissant de comment les textures des murs et de la rue sont ressortis.

I took a picture of this cat as I was walking home. I've always wanted to draw the Montreal alley ways as they are intimate and filled with life. In this case with greenery, the cat, the basketball net, the birds and the drying clothes. This is the first of my works capturing the alleyways of Montreal and many more will come after this one.
J'ai pris ce chat en photo pendant que je revenais à la maison. J'ai toujours voulu dessiner les ruelles Montréalaises comme ils sont intimes et rempli de vie. Dans ce cas-ci avec la végétation, le chat, le filet de basket ball, les oiseaux et le linge qui sèche. Ceci fait parmi des mes premiers oeuvres qui met en valeur les ruelles Montréal et plusieurs autres viendront après celui-ci.

I did the majority of this drawing in real life. I was in a creation workshop at the Bic (QC) and in the mornings I would draw the cabin of my Air BnB between 6-8h30 before going to the theatre and sometimes I would go out in the evening before sunset. I liked the relation between the yellow flowers and the yellow door. We can see that I start developing my style of hyperdetailed vegetation.
J'ai fait la majorité de ce dessin sur place. J'étais en résidence de création au Bic et le matin je sortais dessiner la cabane de mon Air BnB entre 6h-8h30 avant de me rendre au théâtre et parfois je sortais en soirée avant le couché du soleil. J'aimais le lien entres les fleurs jaune et la porte jaune. On peut voir, que je commence à développer mon style de végétation hyper détaillé.

This was my first large scale illustration. I fell in love with all the colourful houses of Newfoundland on the slopes of Signal Hill when I visited. The battery is the outport of St-John's leading into the Antlantic Ocean and also served as a Battery during both World Wars. Instead of going on vacation one summer, I basically drew full-time for nearly two weeks. I decided to challenge myself with something larger. Normally, my drawings takes many months since my career as a lighting designer requires much of my time but this was one of my fastest completed drawings since I was on vacation. I wanted to capture the vibrant colours of the houses, nature and water.

Ceci était ma première illustration à grande-échelle. J'ai tombé en amour avec la maison colorés de Terre Neuve sur la pente de Signal Hill. La batterie mène vers la sortie de l'océan Atlantic et a servi comme une batterie de cannon pendant les deux guerres Mondiales. Plutôt que d'aller en vacance un été, j'ai essentiellement dessiné à temps pleins pendant près de deux semaines. Je me suis donné le défi de peindre que quelquechose de plus larges. Habituellement, mes dessins peuvent prendre plusieurs mois à compléter car ma carrière de concepteur lumière occupe beaucoup de mon temps par contre ceci figure comme un de mes dessins complété le plus rapidement comme je l'ai fait en vacances. J'ai voulu capturé les couleurs vibrantes des maisons, de la nature et de l'eau.

At this point, I am naturally develloping my practice. I bring my camera on tour and I have the desire to draw the plces I visit. I chose to do this image because I love the orange motorcycle and the yellow building contrasting with the light blue sky. I liked the saturated colors and the dynamic mouvement of the motorcycle and building.
À ce stade-ci, je commence à naturellement développer ma pratique. J'ammène ma caméra en tournée et j'ai envie de dessiner les lieux que je visite. J'ai choisi celui-ci car j'adorais le moto orange et l'édifice jaune qui rentre en contraste ave le ciel bleu. J'aimais les couleurs saturé et le mouvement dyamique de la moto et l'édifice.

I was in France and during this trip I took many pictures. I had just drawn one of my first drawings inspired by one of my pictures from Japan. I then had a desire to do a drawing based on my trip in France. I chose to draw this Parisian café because I liked the green french awning, the vegetation and the beige walls.
J'étais en France et pendant ce voyage j'avais pris plusieurs photos. Je venais de faire mon premier dessin inspiré d'une de mes photos au Japon. J'avais eu envie de faire un dessin de mon voyage en France quelque mois plus tard. J'avais choisi de peindre ce café parisien car j'aimais le vert du voile d'ombrage, la végétation et les murs beiges.
